Southwest Amotekun Chiefs Unite in Candlelight Tribute to Akeredolu.

South West commanders and officers of the South West Security Network (SWSN), codenamed Amotekun Corps, recently organised a candlelight walk in honour of the late Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the officers conducted the candlelight walk as a mark of honour to the deceased governor.

Gathering at the Cathedral junction in Akure, the Ondo State capital, commanders from all five Southwest states, accompanied by some of their officers, commenced a walk from the spot to the Governor’s Office, Alagbaka. Throughout the walk, they chanted songs praising the late Akeredolu.

Upon arriving at the Governor’s Office, the Corps commanders were welcomed by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who pledged unwavering commitment to the sustenance of the formation initiated by Akeredolu.

Aiyedatiwa assured them of the utmost importance placed on the security of lives and property within the region.

Speaking on behalf of all the Corps commanders, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, the Ondo State Amotekun Corps commander, affirmed the permanence of the formation. He reiterated the readiness of all Southwest states to safeguard the region from criminal activities.

Adeleye stated, “The Corps commanders from Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, and I, along with hundreds of our men, paid a solidarity visit to the government and the good people of Ondo State to mourn the loss of our amiable governor, who had been at the forefront of Amotekun Corps.

“We have met with all the governors, and they have demonstrated their solidarity with the people of Ondo State. All the Corps commanders traveled from their respective states today, and that’s the reason for the 5km walk we embarked upon.

“The notable achievements made by Governor Akeredolu were primarily in the security framework of the South-West. We are all aware of the security situation before the establishment of Amotekun, approximately three years ago. We are living proof that security in the southwest has significantly improved. We are committed to continuing the commendable work that he initiated as our esteemed leader.

“We have received assurance from Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa that he will carry on the exceptional work started by Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in Amotekun. Hence, we have no apprehensions.”

Colonel Olayinka Olayanju(rtd), the Corps Commander from Oyo State, highlighted that Amotekun Corps would persist in its operations, emphasising its substantial growth and maturity over the years, ensuring its continuity and effectiveness.
