Describe your idea: Recycling is high on the agenda. But we are often unaware of what can be recycled and where a recycling service exists.
I suggest a site that flags up what is available locally. This would flag up local amenity tips and what they accept (including specialist collection), local community initiatives (such as rehab of furniture and white goods, exchange services, community collections etc. A website could easily flag up what was available locally and the type of services. This would enable a higher proportion of waste being recycled or re-used.
What problem does it solve?: Recycling is still a small percentage of the waste we produce. Part of the reason is lack of knowledge of what can be recycled, and knowledge of where it can occur.
A website could both identify the services available and where – and flag up new services to those registering on it.

Hi Rob,
We were interested in your idea for a website providing details of services available in your area for recycling and reusing products and materials. We noticed that there are a few websites available that provide this sort of information, including http://www.wasteconnect.co.uk.
Over the next few months, we are hoping to work with some of these websites to make the data available for reuse by developers.
