Your ideas (Page 2)

In 2009 CF Labs ran a 'Call for Ideas' to gather ideas for tools we could build to make lives easier.

The call for ideas has now closed.

‘WhatDoTheyKnow’ type service

Describe your idea: MySociety have created a service called WhatDoTheyKnow, which not only makes it easier for individuals to make Freedom of Information requests to the different public bodies, but also allows others see what requests have been made and what the answers have been (therefore reducing duplicate requests, measures response time and more). Create [...]

Mapping Cycle lanes

Describe your idea: There are loads of cycle lanes around our towns and cities, but often they just disappear – merge into bus lanes or get parked on. We could collect data on cycle lanes – identifying where they are and highlighting ineffective cycle lanes and map them out on an interactive website. The public [...]

Linked data

Describe your idea: Include linked data support in all your projects – either exposing RDF directly (perhaps as RDFa) or via a SPARQL endpoint. See http://esw.w3.org/topic/SweoIG/TaskForces/CommunityProjects/LinkingOpenData/ What problem does it solve?: Exposes data directly to the Web, allowing easier reuse and mashups. More interoperable than proprietary APIs.

Watching the servants

Describe your idea: Create a tool that allows people to log reports of police brutality and unjustified stop and searches – with the number of the relevant officer. Maybe people could also upload digital footage they might have made. There could be a extra area where people can upload pics of officers that have forgotten [...]

Describe your idea: Location based search engine for TrustMark registered firms with a customer feedback facility. What problem does it solve?: Provides improved enhanced selection criteria when there is a choice of firms within the consumers preferred area. It will encourage firms to provide the highest levels of consumer satisfaction to enhance their scoring.

Meeting Me Meeting You

Describe your idea: Meeting up can be very expensive. Hotels have cornered the market for hosting work and private functions. Yet most towns and villages have facilities like village halls which are infrequently used – often by local groups in the evening. These often have all the facilities required and charge just a fraction of [...]

Local Provenance

Describe your idea: There is a growing interest in sourcing locally grown produce and sourcing local services. However, few people are in tune with whats available on their doorstep. Could a website act as a pointer to the services available on the doorstep and thereby promote the local economy and reduce food/service miles thereby mitigating [...]

Waste not

Describe your idea: Recycling is high on the agenda. But we are often unaware of what can be recycled and where a recycling service exists. I suggest a site that flags up what is available locally. This would flag up local amenity tips and what they accept (including specialist collection), local community initiatives (such as [...]

CO2 Benchmark

Describe your idea: We all have a role in reducing and mitigating against our changing climate. However there is a lack of authoritative information on the impact of many of the goods that we buy. I’ve been impressed with the Government/EU database on vehicle emissions. Couldn’t we have a similar source for all goods ? [...]

Public Notice One Stop Shop

Describe your idea: Public bodies advertise orders in a variety of ways – but invariably have to use a national and local media to “ensure” the public are notified. This is often very expensive. However, “local” media are becoming scarce with the closure of local newspapers, and circulation is often limited. The idea that this [...]
